Erik Hanberg

Having a guest speaker in class was a very different experience. This was first time that I was listening to guest speaker in classroom throughout the education journey. Erik Hanberg was a very wonderful guest speaker. Erik main point in the presentation was about how he has used the Internet to help contribute to his success.  Erick have written more than 10 books and some books are yet to be released. With the success of the Hartio Theater, Erik created two other starts up businesses Exit133.com and Suite133. These provide web-space and workspace for freelance web developers. Erik Hanberg is an Author/publisher and is also currently a member of committee of Metro Parks Board of Tacoma and also run a company Side X Side Creative, a boutique-marketing firm for businesses and nonprofits.

Erik then told about how Internet has a huge role in his life and how it opened new doors for him. The Internet has provided Eric a platform to be a self-publishing author and how it helps him save money. Now with online e-reader book selling, Erik books can be reached to grater audience and it’s easy to find online publisher. I also liked when he used the quote about working online “The amount of privacy you have right now might be the most privacy that you will ever have”.  Privacy is going to decrease from day by day and being someone like Erik, it’s hard to seek privacy. Overall it was very informative presentation an it showed me that how hard work lead to success.

Things which I will never buy Online !!!

In this digital age, we can buy almost anything from Internet now. Everyday thousands of items get listed for sale on Internet and everyday people around the world spend dollars online for buying products. But according to me there are few things, which I will never buy on Internet, and here is the list:

1)   Used car: even in todays digital age, we can look up car history for any repairs or accident, but still to me buying any used car online, without testing the car first, would be not satisfactory. You never now if the car have any faulty parts which will not work.

2)   Groceries: I would not buy food on-line because I would not be to see the quality of food. Plus the food is covered in ice when it arrives, and costumer gets no idea how old the food is, causing the health concern.

3)   Cloths: I would not buy the cloths because I am kind a person who likes to wear cloths first and then buy it. Also some cloths fit perfectly and some don’t, so when you buy online, you have no clue if the cloths get perfect fit on you.

Scavenger Hunt Experience

Doing the scavenger hunt exercise was a great and fun learning experience. My team members and me had to find the answers to the questions that our professor gave us. We had to use the Internet to find the information but it needs some searching and digging. Some information popped up right away on basic Internet search but some question needed a lot of searching. My group and me decided to split the questions so we can finish early and before turning in the answers to question we will discuss them first. I got the first 6 question and all of them were easy. Also the first three questions popped up all under one page, which was created by previous class, due to fact that they mentioned our professor name under their blog. Before turning in my group had a discussion on one question, middle sister's married name and in order to do that we looked into our professor Facebook, things professor posted anything related to sisters and in the end I think we answered, Nancy but we heard she is the youngest sister.

It was very interesting exercise and we discovered how most of the information about the individual is available online and can me accessed within milliseconds. This exercise showed that how we give up our personal information with not even notice it. Also by collaborate with other fellow students as a group I learned how others use different searches methods on Internet to find answers. We turned in our paper the second in the class and it turned out that my group won $5 Starbucks gift card, which was surprising.
